Role Overview
We are seeking a Junior Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development of innovative machinery and systems. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated early-career engineer to work on complex electromechanical designs, gaining exposure to real-world design for manufacture, assembly, and test.
Reporting to the Design Office Manager, you’ll play a key role in producing 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, and supporting documentation used in the manufacture of world-class capital equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings of mechanical assemblies and components
- Collaborate with production, R&D, and senior design engineers to refine designs
- Support design reviews and update documentation in line with change requests
- Ensure designs meet internal standards and client specifications
- Assist with BOM creation and maintenance in the ERP system
- Contribute to continuous improvement of design workflows and standards
- Investigate and resolve minor engineering challenges during build and test phases
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a mechanical design role
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or similar)
- Understanding of mechanical engineering principles, tolerances, and manufacturing processes
- Able to interpret technical drawings, specs, and GD&T
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Self-motivated, organised, and willing to take ownership of tasks
Desirable Skills
- Experience in low-volume, high-precision machinery design
- Knowledge of materials, manufacturing methods, and component selection
- Exposure to engineering change processes and documentation standards
- Familiarity with PDM or CAD data management tools
