Job Title: Assembly Operative
Location: Newhaven, East Sussex
Salary: £25,396 per annum + Annual Bonus
Role Overview
This position suits an Assembly Operative with hands-on experience in metalwork and woodwork, supporting the build and assembly of engineered products within a structured manufacturing environment. The role is workshop-based in Newhaven and forms part of a small, skilled production team focused on quality, consistency, and throughput.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble components using metalwork and woodwork techniques in line with drawings and build instructions
- Carry out drilling, cutting, fastening, bonding, and finishing operations on metal and wooden parts
- Use hand tools and basic power tools safely and accurately
- Read and follow engineering drawings, job sheets, and assembly instructions
- Perform visual and dimensional quality checks during and after assembly
- Maintain a clean and organised workstation in line with health and safety standards
- Support continuous improvement by identifying assembly or quality issues
Required Skills & Experience
- Practical experience in assembly, fabrication, or manufacturing
- Proven ability working with metal and wood (commercial or workshop-based)
- Confident using hand tools and basic workshop equipment
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work to tolerances
- Reliable, detail-focused, and comfortable working as part of a team
Desirable (Not Essential)
- Experience in a light engineering or manufacturing environment
- Basic understanding of quality control processes
- Ability to interpret simple engineering drawings
